Download the OPL app, tap Sign Up, and create an account with your email, a username, and a password. Your profile and ratings are created automatically from day one.
How do I start a ranked match?+
Go to the Match tab, search for your opponent by username, select your game type and race length, then tap Create Ranked Match. Your opponent will receive a notification to accept.
What is a provisional rating?+
Your rating is marked ⚡ Provisional for your first 20 matches. This just means the system is still calibrating your skill level. The rating counts and affects others normally — it's just flagged so opponents know you're newer to the system.
Is OPL free?+
Yes — completely free. No subscriptions, no ads, no pay-to-win. Just pool.
Matches & Scoring
How does live scorekeeping work?+
The player who created the match keeps score on their phone. The opponent can watch the live scoreboard update in real time from the Match tab on their own device. Both players see the same score — no disputes about who won what.
My opponent won't confirm the match result. What do I do?+
Ask them to open the app and confirm from their Match tab — the pending result will be waiting there. If they're unresponsive, reach out to us at admin@opl-usa.com with the match details and we can review it manually.
Can I dispute a match result?+
Yes. The fastest way is to use the built-in dispute feature — open the match in the app and tap the dispute option before confirming. This sends the issue directly to our review queue. If you need further help, reach out on Discord or as a last resort email us at admin@opl-usa.com.
What happens if I abandon a match?+
Tapping Abandon cancels the match in progress. No result is recorded and no ratings are changed. The match will not appear in either player's history.
What is the 3-foul rule?+
Three consecutive fouls by the same player results in a loss of frame (frames mode) or a 3-point penalty to the opponent (points mode). The scorekeeper tracks foul counts automatically. See the full rules at Rules.
Ratings & Ranks
How does ELO work?+
ELO is a competitive rating system where the amount you gain or lose depends on the rating difference between you and your opponent. Beating a stronger player earns more points; losing to a weaker player costs more. Every player starts at 1,000. Ratings are calculated separately for each of the 7 game formats.
Why did my rating change by a different amount than I expected?+
The ELO formula factors in the rating difference between both players. If you beat someone rated much lower than you, the gain is small. If you beat someone rated much higher, the gain is large. The match result screen shows a preview of exactly how much your rating will change before you submit.
What are the rank tiers?+
There are 8 tiers: Beginner (D), Novice (C), Solid (B), Competitor (A), Advanced (AA), Elite (AAA), Champion (S), and Legend (SSS). Each tier has three sub-ranks: minus, base, and plus. All players start at 1,000 ELO in the Beginner tier.
Do ratings reset between seasons?+
Yes. When a new season starts, all ratings reset to 1,000 and stats reset to zero. This gives every player a fresh shot at the leaderboard each season. Your career stats (total all-time matches, wins, etc.) are preserved separately.
Private Ladders
How do I create a private ladder?+
Go to the Ladder tab and tap Create Ladder. Give it a name, set the game format, and invite players by username. You can have one active ladder as a creator at a time.
Can I join multiple ladders?+
Yes. There's no limit on how many ladders you can be a member of. You can only create one, but you can accept invites from as many as you like.
What happens to my ladder when a new season starts?+
Ladders persist across seasons — they don't get deleted. However, the ratings within the ladder reset along with all other ratings when a new season begins.
